Apple to Unveil More Plans for iBeacon at WWDC

Technobiru :

According to the Wall Street Journal, Apple has more plans for its iBeacon technology, which it will unveil at its WWDC starting Monday. Apple will also be placing iBeacon transmitters across Moscone Center (WWDC Venue) in an effort to promote the technology to developers.

Apple is expected to reveal more iBeacon plans at its World Wide Developers Conference in San Francisco starting Monday, where it also intends to preview new versions of its iOS mobile-operating system and Mac OSX software. To promote iBeacon, Apple will place beacons throughout Moscone Center and offer sessions for developers on how to implement the technology.

Apple has moved forward cautiously with iBeacon due to privacy concerns of being tracked, however Apple claims the transmitters do not track users as they only send out a signal, not receive.

The report does not mention how Apple plans to push iBeacons further, but we guess it has something to do with more partnerships with developers and companies while having a more prominent role in iOS 8. Apple could also push iBeacons in its rumored Made for iPhone Smart Home program.

For those unfamiliar with iBeacons, they enable iOS devices to wireless communicate through low-power bluetooth technology with transmitters that are physically nearby. Many retail stores, including Apple's own have already adopted the technology, and if Apple does begin an aggressive rollout to more stores, it would be a perfect technology to incorporate with its rumored mobile payment system.

Our WWDC roundup can be found here, where Apple is expected to unveil iOS 8, OS X 10.10 and more.
