I am new to this fourm and after browsing searching for an answer to my issue. (not being able to remove java and install new)
I found a thread on the internet that solved my issue. I googled and found this first.

Which lead me to this tutorial on how to remedy java issues.

It took a little over 30 minutes to do but was worth it in the end.
I hope this post will save some others as much time as it tool me searching for answers.
